2 suspected NPA leaders arrested in Agusan del Norte
MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested two suspected New Peoples Army (NPA) in Agusan del Norte.
The Caraga regional police identified the arrested suspects as Kim Mapoy a.k.a. “Patrick”, 28; and his brother, Loreto Mapoy a.k.a. “Arvin”, 35, who have 19 and 14 arrest warrants, respectively.
Authorities said the elder Mapoy, allegedly the former secretary of the dismantled Guerrilla Front (4A) in North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCRMC) was arrested at 9:50 a.m. in Buenavista town in Agusan del Norte on Dec. 6.
The local police said he is listed as No. 1 most wanted in the Caraga region and is tagged in cases of murder, arson, multiple attempted murder, attempted murder and multiple frustrated murder.
Article continues after this advertisementHis younger brother, who is a former commanding officer in the NCMRC, was arrested around 10:27 a.m. on Dec. 6 in the same town.
Article continues after this advertisementPolice said he is listed as No. 2 most wanted in Caraga and was served 14 arrest watrants for cases of murder, arson, multiple attempted murder, attempted murder, and multiple frustrated murder.
Police also said that the Mapoy brothers were allegedly involved in multiple attempted murder cases that transpired on the following dates:
—July 12, 2019 in Brgy. Guinabsan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte
-August 18, 2016 in Sitio, Bulok, Upper Olave, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte
-April 9, 2016 in Sitio, Tagbulacao, Brgy. Lower, Olave, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte
-May 11, 2019 in Purok 3, Sitio Matina, Brgy, Nongnong, Butuan City
-March 14, 2016 in Upper Olave, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte allegedly conspiring in an ambush of members of the 23rd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army
– March 14, 2020 in Sitio Mabuhay, Brgy. MJ Santos, Butuan City where they allegedly attacked the members of Butuan City Mobile Force Company who were conducting combat operations.
“The arrest of these two topmost wanted CTG personalities only proves the dedication and commitment of Caraga cops to free the region from the threats posed by the terrorist group,” Caraga police Regional Director Brig. Gen. Pablo Labra II said in a statement on Thursday.
“The aggressive stance of PNP Caraga against insurgency and terrorism will remain until the Caraga region will be declared insurgency-free,” he added.
