Elderly woman dead, 19 passengers hurt in Bohol road accident

TAGBILARAN CITY — A 63-year-old woman died while at least 19 passengers of a bus were hurt in a road accident in Bilar town, Bohol on Thursday morning, Dec. 8.

The fatality was identified as Erlinda Anub, a resident of Barangay Inaghuban in Pilar town.

Initial investigation showed that a bus, which came from Sierra Bullones town, was traveling a winding road when its driver, Joseph Ratilla lost control of the vehicle past 9 a.m.

“The driver was looking for a way to minimize the damage to the bus and passengers. If he was on the left side, the bus would fall down the cliff,” said Staff Sergeant Jovel Martos, desk officer at Bilar Police Station.

The bus had at least 25 passengers.

Local rescuers from the towns of Bilar, Loboc, Batuan, Sevilla and Loay joined forces in rescuing the victims.
