MANILA, Philippines — A total of 7,731 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded nationwide last week, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The latest number of fresh infections logged from November 28 to December 4 translates to a daily average of 1,104 and was slightly lower than the new coronavirus cases posted the week prior.

The DOH’s weekly report also indicated that only two or 0.03 percent of the fresh COVID-19 cases were tagged as severe or critical, bringing the sum of active severe or critical coronavirus infections to 595. Overall active COVID-19 cases, however, was 18,256 as of December 4.

The newest data further showed that 134 more people died due to COVID-19. According to the government, 19 patients died in the past two weeks, while the death of 115 others – which occurred since July 2020 – was only validated recently.

Based on the DOH COVID-19 tracker, the nationwide death toll stood at 64,725 as of December 4.

Also, the DOH said occupancy of non-ICU and ICU hospital beds dedicated to coronavirus patients slightly increased from 25.2 percent to 25.3 percent and from 21.6 percent to 22.1 percent, respectively, in the last seven days.

In terms of the progress in vaccination against COVID-19, the DOH said the country currently has 73,625,652 (94.27 percent of the target population), fully-vaccinated people, with 33,333 of them receiving the shots from November 28 to December 4, while the boosted number of individuals increased to 20,938,010 after 142,780 more received their booster doses during the same period.

As of Dec. 5, the country’s active cases slightly decreased to 17,907, even after recording 1,141 new infections.

With this, the country’s COVID-19 caseload is now at 4,042,182 nationwide, with 3,959,525 recoveries and 64,750 deaths.

Based on the tracker, Metro Manila continues to lead the list of regions with the highest number of infections at 5,067.
