2 dead in Batangas motorcycle-van collision

LUCENA CITY — A motorcyclist and his back-rider died Sunday night in a road accident in San Juan town in Batangas province.
The Batangas police reported that motorcyclist Joel Puzon and his unidentified “minor” back-rider were traveling at around 8:30 p.m. along the Laiya road in Barangay Laiya Ibabao, when they collided head-on with an oncoming van driven by Ben De los Reyes.
Both motorcycle riders suffered serious injuries and died on the spot.
The police are conducting investigation while De los Reyes remain in their custody.
The police did not say if the victims were wearing crash helmets for protetion as mandated under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009. INQ
