MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit (LRT-1) will suspend operations from December 3 to 4 for the reintegration of LRT-1 Roosevelt Station with its existing 19 operational stations from Baclaran to Balintawak, its private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) said on Saturday.
During the weekend closure, the LRMC will conduct readiness tests, trial runs, and exercises to check the integration of the Roosevelt area under LRT-1’s brand-new Alstom signaling system.
“We advise our passengers to plan their trips ahead,” LRMC chief operating officer Rolando Paulino III said in a statement.
The LRMC said the LRT-1 will be operational on Monday, December 5, or once “the results of operational exercises are confirmed to be acceptable.”
LRT-1 Roosevelt Station was temporarily closed last September 5, 2020, to make way for the government’s construction of the common station also known as the Unified Grand Central Station, which is planned to connect the systems of LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7.
However, due to the COVID-19 restrictions and adjustments in the construction timelines of the common station, the reopening of LRT-1 Roosevelt Station was put on hold, resulting in limited operations of the railway, servicing only from Baclaran to Balintawak and vice versa.
