Girl raped, slain in Mamburao
OCCIDENTAL MINDORO—A graduating elementary school honor student was raped and killed in a village in Mamburao town, Occidental Mindoro, police said yesterday.
Ana Jamina Cabatac, 11, who was first reported missing by her parents on Tuesday, was found lifeless Wednesday in a drainage canal of Sea Breeze Subdivision in Barangay Tayaman, Mamburao, said Chief Supt. Artemio Hicban, regional police director for Mimaropa (Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan).
He said Cabatac was last seen with six of her classmates on their way home from Mamburao Central Elementary School aboard a tricycle driven by the suspect, Edmar Vitangcor, at around 5 p.m.
The victim’s classmates reached home, except for Cabatac, who was left in the tricycle. Cabatac was scheduled to graduate Friday with honors.
The tricycle driver, Vitangcor, was arrested shortly after Cabatac’s body was found. He would be charged with abduction, rape and killing. Madonna Virola, Inquirer Southern Luzon
