MANILA, Philippines — A fire broke out at a Korean bar and grill restaurant located inside a mall in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City on Friday, said the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

According to the BFP’s statement, the fire was reported at around 12:12 p.m.

The BFP said that the fire originated from one of the tables of the restaurant, and that the establishment was burned partially.

Witness Deo Miguel Olvina saw the smoke coming from the restaurant at around noon, saying that “it was difficult to breathe” at the time.

“[Smoke] spread throughout the floor and other parts of the mall. When that happened, mostly, authorities and mall staff were trying to use fire extinguishers in the resto. As I left the mall while we were being evacuated, I saw firetrucks and firemen rushing to the scene” said Olvina.

Ky dela Torre, another witness at the scene, said that she noticed that the lights were off in the said Korean restaurant, and that smoke was coming from the place.

“Guards [and] employees were bringing out fire extinguishers; it didn’t take long ‘till customers [and] employees were also told to evacuate,” said Dela Torre.

Authorities declared the fire out by 12:24 p.m. Officials said that the cause of the fire is still “under investigation.”

The cost of damage is said to be P80,000, according to the BFP.
