Metro Manila’s COVID-19 positivity rate up from 7.4% to 9.2% — OCTA

MANILA, Philippines – Metro Manila’s COVID-19 positivity rate jumped from 7.4% to 9.2% within seven days, and a wave of infections is possible, according to OCTA Research fellow Guido David.
In a social media post, David said that the positivity rate in Metro Manila jumped from 7.4% on November 15 to 9.2% as of November 22.

“Unless the trends change, this looks like the start of another wave of infections in the NCR as cases will likely start increasing again,” David said.
David added that it would be “similar to what we saw in June.” where a spike in cases was recorded.
In a separate Twitter post, David said that Metro Manila logged167 new cases as of Wednesday.
Based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker as of Nov. 23, active COVID-19 infections are currently at 17,049 nationwide.
Despite the seemingly low number of active cases, a hospital in Quezon City, the National Kidney and Transplant Institute on Wednesday reported reaching three times its capacity, including COVID-19 patients.
The tracker also showed that Metro Manila leads the list of regions with the most active COVID-19 cases, at 3,382.
The Department of Health previously warned that virus transmission is likely to increase especially after the observance of “Undas,” the upcoming Christmas holidays and the detection of the XBB Omicron subvariant and XBC variant of COVID-19 — both of which are believed to be highly immune-evasive.
