Marcos Jr. denies buzz on leadership change in DOF: It’s ‘fake news’

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday shut down murmurs of an alleged leadership change in the Department of Finance (DOF), calling them “fake news.”

Marcos Jr. said he does not know where talk about Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno leaving his post and being supposedly replaced by Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda originated.

“Fake news. I don’t know where it comes from. Why would I do that? We’ve assembled a great team. At saka (also), we’re trying to go down a certain direction. It’s a very, very poor time to change horses in midstream,” he told reporters in an interview.

Diokno shrugged off the rumors earlier, saying he is “old enough in this game to even bother about this.” He added that he has a “very good relationship” with the President.

Salceda has also denied the rumors.

“The President ultimately makes the decisions on appointments. The Cabinet, after all, is his official family. He has a SOF already. Until he says otherwise, any talk of any appointment is pointless speculation,” Salceda previously said to reporters.
