ORMOC CITY — A mother delivered her baby on board a motorboat in the sea off Barangay Hilabaan in Dolores town, Eastern Samar over the weekend.
Mary Balbaboco, 28, was supposed to be brought to a hospital which can be reached through a 30-minute boat ride from their village.
Councilor Letecia Adel Corado, the chairman of the village’s committee on health, said Balbaboco gave birth to a baby girl at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 20.
The baby was the fourth child of Balbaboco whose husband Chris works as a fisherman.
Corado explained that the island-barangay of Hilabaan has followed the “no home birth” policy of the government.
“We have to transport laboring mothers to the hospital in the town,” she said.
