MANILA, Philippines — A total of 8,004 total infections of COVID-19 were recorded from November 14 to 20, slightly lower than the cases recorded the previous week, which was 9,069.

According to the DOH in its latest weekly report, this translated to a daily average of 1,143, which was 12 percent lower than what was recorded from November 7 to 13.

Meanwhile, only two or 0.03 percent of the total cases were tagged as severe or critical, bringing the active number of severe or critical cases to 568.

Meanwhile, a total of 93 deaths were added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll — 28 of which occurred in the past two weeks, while the rest were backlogs recorded as early as Sept. 2020.

Non-ICU utilization rate, on the other hand, dipped from 25.8 to 23.1 percent, while the ICU utilization rate went down from 21.3 to 20.9 percent.

In terms of the progress in vaccination against COVID-19, fully-vaccinated individuals now number 73,707,875 (94.38 percent of the target population), with 63,511 new vaccinations, while individuals with booster shots, now total of 20,866,539 after 106,013 additional individuals were inoculated in the same period.

The higher number of infections came over a month after the health department detected the XBB Omicron subvariant and XBC variant of COVID-19 — both are believed to be highly immune-evasive, with the XBB tagged as the main driving force for the recent COVID-19 surge in Singapore, and the XBC being a combination of the BA.2 sublineage of the Omicron and Delta variants.
