MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday said it had deported 17 Chinese nationals as part of its illegal online gambling workers.
The 17 Chinese nationals make up the third batch of deportations following the first six deported last October and the first 21 deported on Nov. 2, according to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
All were part of the 300 foreign nationals, mostly Chinese, scheduled to be deported by BI after being arrested for involvement in illegal online gambling.
The latest group boarded a Philippine Airlines flight to Wuhan, China.
According to Tansingco, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla is also closely monitoring the implementation of the deportations as the BI submits reports on the status of the rest of the deportees to the DOJ.
Meanwhile, those deported are automatically included in the BI’s blacklist, barring them from returning to the Philippines.
