A TOUGHER competition is expected in the sixth installment of the Copa De Casino Español De Cebu Sports Fest starting April 9 in different venues.
New members dominated last year’s competition and they are expected to go full throttle this year, according to overall chairman of sports Nonoy Tirol during yesterday’s official launching of the event at the Madrid Room of Casino Español De Cebu.
“We are expecting a tougher competition this year since there are a lot of young competitors and a brand-new Kia Picanto at stake for the golf tournament’s hole-in-one winner,” said Tirol.
The event features sporting activities for members of Casino Espanol De Cebu. It aims to promote camaraderie and well being to its members by engaging into physical sports.
Sporting events and parlor games to be included for this year’s competition are badminton, tennis, balut, ballroom dancing, domino, liar’s dice, bowling, golf, poker and billiards.
Up first will be the bowling tournament on April 9. The tennis tournament will kick off on April 21 while the rest of the sports and parlor games will follow after.
The highlight of the sports fest will be the golf tournament on May 11 before the awarding night and the ballroom dancing competition.
Meanwhile, the sportsfest will now award a Player of the Year plum for a member who tops several sporting competitions.
Joining Tirol yesterday were bowling chairman Tony Lozada, golf vice chairman Bruno Gonzales, sports director of bowling and badminton Louie Moro, sports director Paco Jarque, tennis chairman Rolly Borres and Kia Motors General sales manager Noel Ting./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
