MANILA, Philippines — Dr. Eric Tayag has been appointed as the undersecretary of the Department of Health, he told INQUIRER.net on Tuesday.
“Yes, Undersecretary of Health,” Tayag said in a text message when asked if he was appointed as the DOH undersecretary.
Health officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire confirmed Tayag’s appointment.
“We received the transmittal of his appointment yesterday,” Vergeire said in a press briefing.
Vergeire however, said Tayag has yet to assume the position since he has not taken his oath yet.
“He has not taken his oath yet, we are still scheduling so he has not assumed the position yet,” she said.
The health official also said they are still studying as to where they would assign Tayag.
Before this post, Tayag had been assigned as Director IV of the DOH’s Bureau of Local Health Systems Development.
He also served as the Director IV of the DOH’s national epidemiology center.
Tayag was known as the “Dancing Asec” as he raised awareness of government health programs through dancing.
