LUCENA CITY — The Office of the Senior Citizen’s Affairs (Osca) in San Pedro City, Laguna has suspended the distribution of cash assistance to indigent elderly residents to clean up the list of beneficiaries.

In an announcement on Thursday, Nov. 10, on social media, Osca canceled the scheduled pension payouts on Nov. 11 and 16.

“There are lots of unreported deaths (among the recipients) during the 3rd quarter (July-September) but are still listed among the living,” the Osca said.

The Osca said it would clean up the list to be submitted to the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Region IV-A “to give a chance to the waitlisted” to be included in the pension payouts for poor elderly residents.

Authorities did not give the number of dead beneficiaries still on the list.

At the start of his administration, President Marcos Jr. ordered the DSWD to digitize the distribution of aid and subsidies and clean the list of beneficiaries.

Republic Act No. 11916 lapsed into law on July 30. Under the measure, the monthly pension of indigent senior citizens will increase from P500 to P1,000. INQ
