He passed away on the same day he was born 35 years ago.

A Manila policeman died on his birthday after he accidentally shot himself in the chest with his service firearm Thursday afternoon.

Case investigator Police Officer 3 Jupiter Tajonera of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section identified the policeman as PO3 Angelo Garcia Agulto, a member of MPD Station 11.

He later decided to spend the night in his friend’s house on Dagupan Street in Tondo, Manila, instead of going home all the way to Las Piñas.

Tajonera said Agulto’s death was ruled as an accident, based on the testimony of the house owner who said he suddenly heard a gunshot ring out Thursday afternoon.

The witness said that when he looked for the source of the sound, he found Agulto already dead, with his gun cleaning paraphernalia laid out beside him.

No other person had come in or out of the room at the time of the victim’s death, Tajonera added.

In addition, he was not suffering from a hangover or drunkenness. “It was really just a simple accident,” Tajonera said.
