The initiative is funded by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity through its Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan program that sought to transform the socio-economic situation of conflict-affected areas.

The NEA, through the Lanao del Norte Electric Cooperative (Laneco), is the primary implementing agency of the project for which the local government is providing P8 million in counterpart funding.

Mamay said the electrification project followed the near completion of the P1.5 billion national road linking the town with nearby towns such as Sultan Naga Dimaporo.

He added that the road eased the delivery of materials and equipment for the project.

Acting Laneco manager Zenaida Fabunan said they have 120 working days to complete the electrification project. She urged residents to cooperate in the clearing operations for the right of way of the lines.

Vice Governor Alan Lim encouraged residents who will connect with the electricity service to religiously pay their monthly obligations in order to ensure the good upkeep of the facilities.

“This (project) will boost the economic activities (in the town), promote sustainable peace and order, and tourism development,” said Gov. Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo.
