LEGAZPI CITY — A 22-year-old man died after two weeks of being critically injured from an uprooted Acacia tree that fell on the road in Sorsogon City in Sorsogon province due to strong winds and heavy rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae).
Christopher Duka and his workmate, Aldrin John Cruz, were traveling to their office onboard a motorcycle when a falling tree struck them in the afternoon of Oct. 28 in Barangay San Roque in Bacon District, the city disaster officials reported earlier.
They were taken to a hospital. Duka went into a coma and died on Tuesday morning, Nov. 8, due to traumatic brain injury and blunt abdominal trauma, his girlfriend, Luela Janoras, told the Inquirer in a chat message.
Bicol region experienced moderate to heavy rains on Oct. 28, a day before Paeng made landfall in Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, and other parts of Luzon.
