CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—Mayor Rolando Uy here has imposed a 24-hour liquor ban starting 8 p.m. tonight ahead of the bar exams on Wednesday.
The liquor ban covers all establishments within a 100-meter radius of the campus of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, which is among the bar exam centers in the country.
According to Uy, the liquor ban is in response to the request of the Supreme Court.
In addition, Uy also ordered several roads around the campus temporarily closed as part of security measures.
The liquor ban will again be effective from 12:01 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the bar exam days of Nov. 13, Nov. 16, and Nov. 20.
Hundreds of Law students and graduates from around the region have flocked here to lend support to their fellow alumni or members of law school-based fraternities and sororities who will be taking the bar exams.
Uy had assured that the city’s police have put up adequate measures to secure the bar exam center and the aspiring lawyers.
