ANGELES CITY — Some 125 traffic enforcers and 214 street sweepers will receive an additional P200 to P213 to their daily wage starting Jan. 2 next year, the city government announced on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
In a statement, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said he signed and issued a memorandum on Monday informing the city traffic development office and the city engineer’s office about their respective personnel’s new rate of P600 per day in 2023.
The city’s human resources and the gender and development offices were also notified of the new daily rate.
Irish Calaguas, Lazatin’s chief adviser, told the Inquirer in a text message on Tuesday that the traffic enforcers’ current daily wage is P400, while street sweepers get P387 per day.
She said Lazatin wanted the traffic enforcers and the street sweepers to feel the spirit of Christmas and give them hope for the coming year.
Mayor Lazatin also wants to make them feel appreciated. He said these employees never fail to do their important tasks regardless of the weather. He said they deserve a wage increase for their sacrifices,” she added.
City traffic development officer Francis Pangilinan said the P200 daily wage increase for the 125 traffic enforcers would be a great help for their daily needs.
City engineer Donato Dizon said it had been more than a decade since street sweepers had a wage increase.
The two officials expressed their appreciation to Lazatin for the significant wage increases their respective subordinates would get.
The city government said traffic enforcers and street sweepers would also be given free medical and physical examinations beginning November. INQ
