MANILA, Philippines —The Bureau of Correction (BuCor) is seeking to hire new blood in the organization that will serve as a “nucleus” of the agency.
BuCor officer-in-charge Gregorio Catapang Jr. said 1,000 job vacancies are now up for grabs in the bureau.
Catapang said the job fair will be conducted on Monday, November 7, the 117th anniversary of BuCor.

He also said that any civil service passer is eligible for the job.
“Pagtulungan natin na baguhin itong BuCor (Let’s help reform the BuCor),” Catapang said in a Teleradyo interview.
“Yung values na tinuro sa akin noong cadet ako sa PMA — values of courage, integrity and loyalty to the service — ito ang gusto kong i-ingrain sa mga bagong BuCor officer.” he added.
(The values that I was taught during my time in the Philippine Military Academy — values of courage, integrity, and loyalty to the service — these are the things I want to ingrain in the new BuCor officers.)
“Imagine one thousand yan, yan ang magiging nucleus ng pagbabago sa BuCor,” he continued.
(Imagine, those one thousand officers will be the nucleus of change within the BuCor.)
This comes as the shady activities inside the New Bilibid Prison came to light.
Catapang had also revealed that more than 7,000 beer in cans and other contraband were allegedly sneaked into the Maximum Security Compound of the Bilibid with the complicity of BuCor and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology officers.
