MANILA, Philippines — In a bid to improve the handling of cases involving law offenders who are minors, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Friday said it has launched an information system for data collection.
The DSWD together with its attached agency Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council, launched the National Juvenile Justice and Welfare Management Information System (NJJWMIS) last Friday, October 28.
The NJJWMIS is a centralized information management system that collects and processes pertinent information of children at risk and children in conflict with the law which is necessary in determining appropriate programs and interventions for minor offenders and their families.
“This information system allows us to collect, record, and manage data on children in conflict with the law and children at risk which is vital in the development of evidence-based policies and programs in support of the principle of restorative justice for minor offenders,” Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo said in a statement.
“It will help guarantee that minor offenders are receiving sufficient and appropriate intervention programs that will enable them to get back on track and become better members of our communities,” Tulfo added.
The information system was developed in 2016 in accordance with Republic Act 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act while adhering to the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
Only a limited number of users are authorized to access the NJJWMIS to ensure security of information, according to the user manual.
Local government unit social workers, DSWD social workers and police officers are among the authorized users of NJJWMIS.
