Pagasa: Rain expected in parts of Visayas, Mindanao due to LPA

MANILA, Philippines – Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected on Thursday in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao due to the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA), according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that rain is expected in Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, the Caraga, Davao and Soccsksargen regions in Mindanao, Bohol, Lanao del Sur, and Maguindanao provinces.

“Asahan natin magpapatuloy itong maulap na kalangitan na may kalat-kalat na thunderstorms. So ayun nga, dahil sa epekto ng mga ulan na dala ni Paeng, posible saturated pa rin ang mga lupa ng mga nabanggit na lugar, kaya mataas pa rin ang tsansa ng landslide at flash floods,” said Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil.

(Expect cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms. Because of the continued effects of the rain brought by Paeng, it is possible that the grounds are still saturated in the aforementioned areas, so there is a high chance of landslides and flash floods).

The LPA is currently 420 kilometers east of General Santos City, said Pagasa.

The rest of the country including Metro Manila can expect fairer weather with possible isolated rain showers, Pagasa added.

Meanwhile, a gale warning was raised over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon (Batanes, the northern coast Of Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands and the northern coast Of Ilocos Norte) due to strong winds caused by the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”
