Over 7,000 residents affected by ‘Paeng’ onslaught in Palawan

The police said in a belated report Wednesday that two former NPA memberssurrendered in Puerto Princesa City on October 18.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — A total of 7,591 persons (2,168 families) were affected by Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” (international name: Nalgae) in Palawan province over the weekend, Palawan provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO) said on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

The PDRRMO’s Emergency Operation Center said that as of Nov. 1, residents in northern Palawan towns had to be evacuated on Saturday.

Some 5,872 persons (1,699 families) sought shelter at the 95 evacuation centers in north Palawan.

All evacuees had returned home by Wednesday, authorities said.

Local authorities are still assessing the total cost of damages to infrastructure and agriculture.

The PDRRMO also said Paeng destroyed 46 houses, damaged 290 homes, wrecked 62 motor bancas, and damaged 157 others.

In San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office placed the initial damage due to Paeng at P31.9 million on agriculture and P6.45 million on infrastructure.
