MANILA, Philippines — A woman allegedly posing as an agent for an online loan company has been arrested in Bulacan, police said Tuesday.
In a news release, the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) of the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group said suspect Beatriez Gonong, who purportedly used a Facebook account under the name “Krzly Dmngo” to pose as a loan agent for “Kaunlaran Institution,” was collared last Thursday, October 27, in the city of San Jose Del Monte.
The ACG said victim Quinnie Agustin inquired to avail of the P40,000 loan offered by Gonong, but she said the suspect had requested her to send requirements such as her postal identity card and a processing fee worth P13,125.
Agustin was later blocked by Gonong after sending the required processing fee through a mobile wallet service.
Agustin then reached out to Gonong using a different Facebook account and the latter again asked for a required payment for the processing fee. This prompted the victim to report the case to the Cyber Response Team of Tarlac.
Gonong is currently under the custody of the San Jose Del Monte police station while formal complaints for swindling are being readied against her.
