2 killed in Cavite house collapse

LUCENA CITY – Two people died after a residential house in Imus City in Cavite province collapsed during the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng” (international name: Nalgae) on Sunday, Oct. 30, authorities said Monday.

According to the Cavite police, rescuers rushed to Barangay Poblacion 4-A to save the victims buried when their house collapsed at 2:45 p.m. due to prolonged heavy rains.

The rescuers managed to successfully save Josephine Reyes, 55; Carl Yuri Caayupan, 12; and Shakira Shanti Abigain, 11

Two other residents—Catherine Reyes, 35, and Carl Yuki Hiro Caayupan, 9—were later retrieved from the collapsed structure at 5:40 p.m.

The two were immediately brought to Ospital ng Imus but died along the way.

Citing their initial investigation, police said the incessant rains weakened the foundations of the house located along the river bank. INQ
