BAGUIO CITY — Rescue officials in Kalinga province reported a missing person on Saturday dragged down into a creek by falling rocks in Balbalan town.

On Sunday night, Oct. 30, a motorboat team picked up four people and brought them to safer ground in Tabuk City as the Chico River there continued to rise, according to the Office of Civil Defense in the Cordillera.

In Baguio City, erosion and fallen trees struck parked vehicles and left minor property damage over the weekend due to unusually strong winds that blew nonstop from Saturday to Monday, the city’s disaster risk reduction and management said.

Power outages hit some parts of Baguio and neighboring La Trinidad town in Benguet province since Sunday, and repair work has been slow due to lashing rain and winds, said Melchor Licoben, manager of the Benguet Electric Cooperative.

He said linemen have been roaming the streets for more than 24 hours to remove fallen trees and evaluate the extent of the damage.

The power outages have also affected water services in the city. INQ
