Severe Tropical Storm Paeng death toll climbs to 45 – NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines – The reported death toll from the fury of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) has risen to 45, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday. 

Forty of the deaths were reported and recorded in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) while the rest are from Western Visayas and the Soccsksargen region.

The NDRRMC previously reported 67 deaths in BARMM, but later revised and reduced the number to 40 after local authorities corrected their initial reports.

These deaths are still being validated by the NDRRMC. 

Meanwhile, 14 individuals have been reported missing, including 11 in the BARMM.

A total of 33 persons were reported injured, but only two of these injuries have been validated, said the NDRRMC. 

According to the NDRRMC, 184,161 people have been affected by Paeng.
