LIST: Class suspensions due to Paeng for October 29, Saturday

MANILA, Philippines — Several local government units (LGUs) and educational institutions have declared class suspensions for Saturday, October 29, in anticipation of heavy rains due to Tropical Storm Paeng.

Caloocan City

Caloocan Mayor Along Malapitan said over the city’s social media accounts that classes for all levels, both public and private, would be suspended for the safety of students.

“Kanselado ang klase ng mga mag-aaral sa lahat ng antas sa mga pribado at pampublikong paaralan sa Lungsod ng Caloocan bukas, Sabado, October 29, 2022.  Ang suspensyon ay bunsod pa rin ng bagyong #PaengPH,” Malapitan said.

“Pinapayuhan po ang lahat na mag-ingat, maging alerto, at makinig sa mga abiso ng gobyerno ukol sa bagyong Paeng,” he added.

Quezon City

Quezon City’s LGU also announced suspensions for all levels, both in-person and online classes on Saturday.

“Base sa DepEd Order No. 37 S. 2022 at deklarasyon ng PAGASA na Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 sa Metro Manila dahil sa Bagyong #PaengPH, SUSPENDIDO ang klase (in-person at online) sa lahat ng antas sa pampubliko at pribadong paaralan sa lungsod bukas, October 29, 2022,” a post on Quezon City’s official Facebook page said.

Pasig City

Pasig’s Public Information Office (PIO) also announced that classes in all levels for both public and private schools on Saturday are suspended.

“Classes in schools located in Pasig City (ALL levels, including universities and colleges, both public and private) are suspended today and tomorrow, October 28 and 29, 2022 due to Tropical Storm Paeng,” Pasig’s PIO said in a tweet.

Parañaque City

Similarly, Parañaque Mayor Eric Olivarez declared class suspensions for all levels at both private and public schools according to the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

“Due to the possible impacts of Tropical Storm ‘PaengPH’ in Metro Manila including Parañaque City and as a precautionary measure, Mayor Eric L. Olivarez declares class suspension at all levels both Public and Private Schools in Parañaque City tomorrow (October 29, 2022),” the Office said.

Here are the other LGUs that have announced class suspensions for all levels in both public and private schools:

Earlier, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) released an updated forecast track showing that Paeng’s trajectory had dipped south, meaning it is highly likely that the cyclone would move over Metro Manila.

As of Pagasa’s 8:00 p.m. update, Paeng still packs maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.  It is currently moving west-northwest at a speed of 25 kph.

Metro Manila, the whole Calabarzon region, and most of Central Luzon are currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2.
