The wrath of tropical storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) has resulted in 98 reported deaths, so far, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday.
In its 6 a.m. situational repor, the NDRRMC said only 58 of these deaths have been confirmed – 53 in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm), three in Western Visayas, and two in Soccsksargen (Cotabato, Saranggani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat).

DSWD needs volunteers for Paeng relief work

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Sunday called for volunteers to help the agency repack relief goods to be distributed to families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae), which left several dead and thousands displaced in its wake.
Currently, there are less than 100 volunteers repacking goods at the agency’s main warehouse in Pasay City. Many are members of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, barangay volunteers, Philippine Air Force, and private citizens.
Interested individuals or organizations may call Mr. Clifford at 0956-9226155 or Ms. Nica at 0915-2921875. They may also visit the headquarters located at Chapel Road, Barangay 195, Pasay City. The agency said they would do repacking operations every day until Nov. 11.

Paeng displaces thousands of families in Calabarzon

Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) left scores of displaced families in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region.
The disaster preparedness council in Quezon province reported that as of Saturday midnight (Oct. 29), 18,801 families (65,849 individuals) living in disaster-prone areas were evacuated in different parts of the province.
At least 231 families were beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) or those who are still below the poverty threshold of the government.

A total of 43,151 travelers were affected by flight cancellations amid Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae), the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Sunday.
Of the 618 scheduled flights for October 29, bad weather brought by Paeng cancelled 295 flights, the MIAA said in a statement.
On Saturday afternoon, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) closed its runways to flight operations starting 4 p.m. due to strong winds caused by Paeng. The runways were reopened at 10 p.m.

Power outages hit some parts of Zambales

Some towns in this province suffered power interruptions as strong winds brought by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) downed electricity lines on Sunday, Oct. 31.
In an advisory, Zambales II Electric Cooperative (Zameco II), that serves the southern towns of the province, said that transmission lines managed by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) were down.

Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) maintained its strength as it moved west southwestward away from the country over the West Philippine Sea, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
According to Pagasa in its latest typhoon bulletin, Paeng was last located 295 kilometers west northwest of Iba, Zambales, carrying maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

The House of Representatives is eyeing to adjust the proposed national budget for 2023 for the rehabilitation of areas recently damaged by Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae).
This was announced by Speaker Martin Romualdez in a statement on Sunday after calling for an assessment of the damage caused by Paeng in several parts of the country.

In its latest update, Pagasa reported that Paeng was last located 225 kilometers west – northwest of Iba, Zambales, carrying maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

Seven persons died due to drowning while two others remained missing after 171 barangays in Western Visayas were flooded during the onslaught of Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae).
Five of the fatalities were reported and recorded in Libacao, Aklan; one in Tapaz, Capiz and another in San Joaquin, Iloilo, according to the 5 a.m. update of the Office of the Civil Defense – Western Visayas (OCD-6) on Sunday.

The death toll from Tropical Storm Paeng’s (international name: Nalgae) fury across the nation has risen to 48, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced on Sunday.
The number of injuries also rose to 40, while 20 individuals have been reported missing, the NDRRMC said in its latest situation report.

Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) is now over the West Philippine Sea after leaving a trail of destruction across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao over the weekend, according to the state weather bureau.

Severe Tropical Storm Paeng, internationally known as Nalgae, cut through Metro Manila, Rizal, and Bulacan as it headed out of the Luzon landmass on Sunday, according to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 p.m. bulletin on Saturday.
Pagasa said that Paeng may exit the Luzon landmass Sunday morning at the earliest, moving northwest and exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility six to 12 hours later.
6,285 families in Negros Occidental affected by floods triggered by Paeng

Floods spawned by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) affected 28,722 residents, 11,173 of whom sought shelter in evacuation centers in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City on Friday and Saturday, October 28 and 29.
A fisherman went missing, houses and pump boats were destroyed, and cemeteries were flooded.

Bridge connecting Batangas and Quezon collapses

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to declare a national state of calamity for at least one year following the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae).
In an emergency full council meeting, NDRRMC executive director Raymundo Ferrer told the President that the one-year nationwide state of calamity will be needed as 16 out of 17 regions in the country are assessed as high risk for Paeng.

A passenger vessel ran aground at the Jagna Port in Bohol after it was dragged by strong winds and waves on Friday night, the Philippine Coast Guard – Central Visayas reported.
PCG-7 spokesperson Ensign Jordz Emata, said no injuries were reported among the 23 crew members of the MV Lite Ferry 1.

Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) is forecast to make another landfall in the vicinity of the southeastern portion of Batangas before barreling through Cavite, Metro Manila and the Bataan Peninsula on Saturday, said state meteorologists.
Paeng made landfall early Saturday morning in Virac, Catanduanes followed by another one in Caramoan Camarines Sur, Buenavista in Quezon, and Santa Cruz in Marinduque, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

NDRRMC: Paeng agri damage in Soccsksargen over P54-M, 194 areas still flooded

At least 15,426 families or 72,089 individuals are still in evacuation centers and private residemces in the Bicol region due to the threat of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae), regional authorities reported on Saturday.
Gremil Alexis Naz, spokesperson of Office of Civil Defense – Bicol, said in a report that 15,296 families or 71,676 individuals from landslide and flood-prone areas are in evacuation centers while 130 families or 413 persons are staying in shelters outside the government facilities.

Two motorists were injured when an uprooted Acacia tree fell on the road in Sorsogon City due to strong winds and heavy rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae).

Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) drenched most parts of the country on Friday and among the worst-hit by heavy rains was the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) where dozens of people died in floods and landslides.
The French news agency, Agence France-Presse, (AFP) quoted an official civil defense report saying that 67 had died by late Friday, more than the 42 earlier reported by officials.

At least 32 rolling cargoes were stranded at a road in Barangay (village) Sta. Isabel in this city on Friday (Oct. 28) afternoon as sea travel was canceled due to Tropical Storm “Paeng” (international name Nalgae), authorities said.
The Philippine Coast Guard station here said all trips to and from Calapan port were canceled as Typhoon Signal No. 2 was hoisted over the province of Oriental Mindoro.

Magat Dam in Ramon town in this province will discharge water on Saturday (Oct. 9) morning as heavy rains due to Tropical Storm “Paeng” (international name Nalgae) continued to raise its elevation, officials of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) said Friday.
In an advisory, the NIA-Magat said 200 cubic meters per second (cms) will be released at 8 a.m. through one of the spill gates, which will be opened at a meter-high.

Aurora enforces ‘no sailing’ policy as Paeng threatens Central Luzon

The provincial government of Aurora has enforced a “no sailing” policy in all coastal towns of the province as Tropical Storm Paeng (international name Nalgae) continues to head towards Central Luzon.
In the memorandum signed by Aurora Gov. Christian Noveras on Friday, Oct. 28, the no-sailing policy for fisherfolk and other boat owners was “effective immediately.”
Noveras also declared a “red alert” status in the province.

At least 812 families or 3,148 persons were evacuated in Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte provinces due to heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Paeng (international name Nalgae).
Gremil Alexis Naz, Office of Civil Defense Bicol spokesperson, reported that 534 families (2,075 people) in four towns in Camarines Norte and 278 families (1,073 people) in 11 towns in Camarines Sur were evacuated since Thursday, Oct. 27.
Thirty-one towns were flooded, while 20 roads, bridges, and spillways were rendered impassable in Camarines Sur due to continuous heavy rains.

The Quezon provincial government raised a red alert on Thursday, Oct. 27, for the possible impact of Tropical Storm Paeng (international name Nalgae).
Quezon Gov. Angelina Tan, in a memorandum issued around 5 p.m., ordered all mayors and disaster preparedness councils to raise the status of their respective emergency operations centers to red alert ahead of the anticipated impact of Paeng.
Provincial and local disaster preparedness officials were also ordered to heed the protocols issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Thousands of people were preemptively evacuated while hundreds more were stranded in some ports nationwide due to Tropical Storm Paeng.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) latest situational report said a total of 4,975 persons were preemptively evacuated nationwide.
According to NDRRMC, a total of 1,322 families or 5,266 persons were also affected by Paeng.

At least 762 passengers were stranded in various ports in the Bicol region due to Tropical Storm Paeng (international name Nalgae).
In a report, the Philippine Coast Guard Bicol said that as of 4 a.m., 461 passengers were stranded at Matnog port in Sorsogon, 275 at Tabaco City port in Albay, and 26 at Camarines Sur ports.
Also stranded were 294 rolling cargoes and 45 fishing vessels.

In its 4 p.m. bulletin issued on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Paeng had intensified into a tropical storm located 520 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.
It was moving southwestward at 10 km per hour, packing winds of up to 65 km/h and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.

Tropical Storm Paeng may make landfall on the coast of Aurora or Quezon province over the weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.
Pagasa even raised the possibility of a landfall in the Bicol region as Paeng’s track shifted southward.
On the forecast track, Paeng may pass close to Catanduanes on Saturday, and a landfall scenario is possible on Sunday on the eastern coast of Aurora or Quezon.
Pagasa has issued a new warning, saying that a possible landfall in the eastern Bicol Region cannot be ruled out at this time, noting that the predicted trajectory had changed and moved southward.

The provincial government of Catanduanes has ordered a suspension of classes at all levels on Thursday, Oct. 27, after Tropical Depression Paeng intensified into a tropical storm.

More than 100 people were evacuated from hazard-prone areas in several towns in Camarines Sur province as Tropical Depression Paeng intensified on Thursday, Oct. 27.
Gremil Alexis Naz, Office of Civil Defense Bicol spokesperson, said in a report that officials at Barangay Mambulo Nuevo in Libmanan town evacuated at 8 a.m. four families or 14 people and 35 families, or 110 people, at Barangay Camuning in Calabanga town.

Tropical Depression Paeng intensified into a tropical storm on Thursday, and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has placed six areas under Signal No. 1.
“Paeng is forecast to reach severe tropical storm category within 24 hours and may intensify into a typhoon by Saturday. The occurrence of rapid intensification in the next 72 hours is not ruled out,” Pagasa said in its 11 a.m. bulletin.

In an advisory, Camarines Norte Gov. Ricarte Padilla suspended classes at all levels in public and private schools due to the heavy rainfall.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Wednesday placed the Bicol region under “red alert” in anticipation of Tropical Depression Paeng, which is expected to affect the eastern seaboard of Luzon this weekend.
“All assets are ready for deployment and everything is coordinated with various government agencies,” Claudio Yucot, the OCD regional director, said in a statement.
Land travel from mainland Luzon to the island provinces of Catanduanes and Masbate, and to the Visayas and Mindanao have been suspended starting Wednesday noon.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is on red alert in preparation for Tropical Depression Paeng and the other natural calamities that hit the country.
According to NDRRMC spokesperson Bernardo Alejandro, Paeng is forecast to hit areas in northern Luzon, which was recently ravaged by Tropical Depressions Maymay and Obet, as well as by Typhoon Neneng.
Alejandro said that the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that struck Abra in northern Luzon on Tuesday night was also a contributing factor in the declaration of the red alert status.

The low-pressure area spotted east of Eastern Visayas has now developed into Tropical Depression Paeng, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday.
The state weather bureau also warned that Paeng’s trough is seen to bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rain over the region, which is also being affected by the shear line.
