Boy, left alone, dead in Lucena City fire

Fire kills 2 kids in Quezon province

LUCENA CITY — An 11-year-old boy died on Tuesday night when a fire razed their house in this city.

The Lucena police said on Wednesday, Oct. 26, that Alfredo Reniva III, who was reported missing after the fire.

The fire, which is of still unknown origin, gutted the house of Reniva in University Village in Barangay Ibabang Dupay at around 9 p.m.

Corporal Eduardo Nartea Jr., the case investigator, said his elder brother left Reniva alone momentarily. Their parents are working in Manila.

Quoting the house owner, the aunt of Reniva, Nartea said power was cut off in the house two years ago due to non-payment.

“They used candles and solar-powered lighting devices,” the police said on the phone. Nartea did not name the family members of the victim.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
