Classes suspended in Laguna, Rizal due to bad weather

Tropical Depression Obet has kept its strength even as it has no direct impact yet on the Philippines

LUCENA CITY — Classes at all levels in public and private schools in some towns in Laguna and across Rizal provinces are suspended Wednesday, Oct. 26, due to bad weather.

The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Calabarzon region announced on its Facebook page that as of 8:15 a.m., Cavinti, Famy, Kalayaan, Lumban, Mabitac, Majayjay, Paete, Pagsanjan, Pakil, Pila, Santa Cruz, Santa Maria, and Siniloan suspended classes in their respective localities.

The post said daycare, elementary to senior high schools were also suspended in Luisiana and Victoria.

In Rizal province, Gov. Rebecca “Nini” Ynarez, said on her Facebook page on Tuesday that classes at all levels across the province on Wednesday were suspended due to persistent rains.

DepEd Order No. 37 series of 2022 said classes and work in schools from kindergarten to Grade 12 and Alternative Learning System are canceled automatically when there is a typhoon signal, an orange or red rainfall warning, or a flood warning in any locality.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in its 3 a.m. bulletin predicted that Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Bicol, Mindoro provinces, Marinduque and Romblon would have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the shear line and the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”

The agency also warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.
