MANILA, Philippines — A total of 256 public utility vehicles (PUVs) will so far get special permits to operate during “Undas” to help accommodate the expected surge in the number of travelers, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Tuesday.

The LTFRB technical division chief, Joel Bolano, said 256 PUVs have already applied for special permits for Undas – All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day – which are expected to be released before Oct. 28.

“The board will release these [permits] before Friday so they can start their out-of-line operations on Friday,” Bolano said in Filipino.

Special permits for PUVs are automatically granted to applicants as long as they have submitted complete requirements, including a certificate of registration, franchise verification, and personal passenger insurance policy.

Bolano said that these special permits would help make it easier for passengers to look for transportation and it would benefit operators by increasing the number of their passengers.

“We opened the application period on October 3, and we continue to inspect terminals,” he said.

According to the LTFRB, the 256  applications will complement the current running 650 PUVs.
