Bongbong Marcos committed to journalists’ safety, says press secretary

MANILA, Philippines — Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) officer-in-charge Cheloy Velica has assured the public that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remains “committed” to the protection and safety of media practitioners in the country

“Makaaasa kayo na ang ating Pangulo, President Ferdinand R. Marcos ay patuloy ang pagkilala  sa hanay ng media bilang importanteng haligi ng ating demokrasya,” said Garafil during a conference by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Saturday.

(Be assured that the President continues to acknowledge the media as a vital pillar of our democracy.)

“Patuloy ang commitment niya na kayo ay proteksyonan at kilalanin ang inyong important role sa nation building,” she added, addressing media practitioners.

She said that as a fellow media practitioner  — but in a “different capacity,” alluding to her role as the current acting chief of OPS — both she and the entire OPS are concerned about the safety and welfare of those who work in media.
