Pagasa: Tropical Depression Obet on the way out, fairer weather expected

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Depression Obet is on its way out of the Philippine area of responsibility and fairer weather isexpected in most parts of the country on Saturday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In its 5:00 a.m. update, Pagasa reported that Obet was spotted some 135 kilometers west-southwest of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kiph.

“Obet is unlikely to bring heavy rainfall over any portion of the country,” Pagasa said in its latest bulletin.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal number 1, however, is still up over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands while a gale warning is still active over Batanes, the northern coast of Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, and the northern coast of Ilocos Norte, said Pagasa. 

Partly cloudy skies and possible isolated rain showers due to the northeast monsoon or amihan are expected in the Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley.

The Caraga and Davao regions in Mindanao will have cloudy skies and scattered rains due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone while Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect fairer weather with chances of rain in the afternoon or evening, said Pagasa.
