THE De La Salle University-Dasmarinas swept the men and women’s titles in the Luzon leg of the 15th Nestea Beach Volley at the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) sands court in Batangas.
The tandem of Joel Villanueva and Ran-Ran Abdilla defeated the University of Luzon, 21-12, 21-18 to cop the men’s crown while Giezelle Bembo and Jennifer Manzano made short work of the University of Perpetual Help-Binan, Laguna, 21-7, 21-17, to win the women’s crown.
UL-Dagupan managed to qualify to the national finals along with third placers Calayan Educational Foundation University following its easy 21-14, 21-13 triumph over University of Baguio in the men’s division.
UL-Dagupan will also have two teams in the finals after their women’s squad booked their ticket after defeating the FAITH Bravehearts in a thrilling three-set salvo, 21-16, 16-21, 15-12 in the battle for third place.
Already gaining slots to the national finals, which will be held in Boracay on April 19 to 21, were Visayas leg men’s qualifiers led by the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod Stingers, University of the Visayas Spiking Green Lancers and University of San Jose-Recoletos Spiking Jaguars of Cebu.
On the distaff side, defending champions Central Philippine University, Southwestern University Lady Cobras and the USLS-Bacolod Lady Stingers comprise the field.
University of Mindanao-Tagum men and women’s team lead the Mindanao qualifiers together with University of Mindanao-Davao, Mindanao State University of Tawi-Tawi, Holy Cross College of Davao and Jose Maria College of Davao. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
