DOH logs 2,227 COVID-19 infections; active tally slightly up at 23,721
MANILA, Philippines — An additional 2,227 COVID-19 cases were added to the country’s total caseload on Thursday, with active infections slightly rising to 23,721.
Based on the Department of Health’s (DOH) online COVID-19 tracker, this brought the country’s total COVID-19 caseload to 3,989,556 nationwide, with 3,902,166 recoveries and 63,669 deaths.
Thursday’s new infections are also much higher than the cases recorded on Wednesday at 1,379, as well as the daily average infections recorded from October 10 to 16 at 2,188.
The tracker also showed that Metro Manila, with 9,083 cases, continues to top the list of regions with the most number of infections in the past two weeks, followed by Calabarzon at second with 4,817 infections, and Central Luzon with 2,637.
In terms of individual areas with the most cases, Quezon City leads with 2,331 infections, followed by Cavite with 1,734 and Rizal with 1,244.
Meanwhile, 15,928 individuals were tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday, which will reflect in the tallied number of new infections on Friday.

The XBC virus, on the other hand, has been classified by the United Kingdom Health Security Agency as a variant under monitoring and investigation
