Cops nab armed cable thief in Quezon City
MANILA, Philippines – A man was arrested in Quezon City (QC) on Thursday for illegally cutting cables and possessing a homemade firearm.
In a statement, QC Police District (QCPD) identified the suspect as Bobby Ramos, 36, a resident of Barangay Sauyo, also in QC.
In a police report, Ramos was caught in the act of cutting cables in Brgy. Balingasa.
The security guard, Alejandro Narciso, 46, who was roving at the time, reported the incident to the police while putting on hold the suspect.
Upon apprehension, the suspect reportedly yielded 400 pairs of 0.4 gauge cable from the suspect and about four meters long, worth P12,756, a steel saw cutter, and an improvised gun (sumpak) filled with 12 shotgun ammunition.
Article continues after this advertisementThe suspect is facing charges of violations of Republic Act 10515, the Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Act.
Article continues after this advertisementQCPD Director Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III said the police would intensify its operations against cable theft and warn everyone who will violate the law.
