LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Women employed by the La Union provincial government will be allowed to work from home (WFH) during their menstruation days, according to an executive order (EO) issued by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David.
In a statement on Tuesday, Oct. 18, the governor said female employees are given “menstrual privileges” of two days every month of WFH arrangement during their “period” days.
Ortega-David said the move aimed to “spread awareness and be kinder to our female employees during their period days.”
“This is my hug to each of you,” she added, noting that La Union was the first province in the country to implement such a policy.
The EO also allows the provision of “menstrual kits” in every office in the provincial government.
Ortega-David said her administration came up with the new policy after listening to the needs of the employees of the provincial government.
Netizens praised the new policy. One said it was a great way to “empower working women.” INQ
