TUGUEGARAO CITY — A 36-year-old tricycle driver died, while two were critically wounded early Wednesday when their car crashed onto a street light post in Claveria town in Cagayan province, the police said.

Rodante Balbag, 36, died while being taken to the Northern Cagayan District Hospital in Sanchez Mira town, while his passengers, identified as Roberto and Sensen from Aparri town, were in critical condition and confined at the hospital.

The Claveria police said Balbag was driving the tricycle too fast on Boulevard Road when he overshot a curve in Barangay Taggat and rammed the post.

Due to the impact, the sidecar was detached, throwing the three out of the vehicle.

Police have been probing if the driver was drunk when the crash took place.
