MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it had solved most of the recorded 30 election protest cases nationwide for the 2022 elections, poll body chairman George Erwin Garcia said on Tuesday.
“Lucky for us, for the 2022 elections, sa Comelec, we received only about 30 election protest cases,” Garcia said in a forum in Manila.
“Ngayon po tatlo na lang ang natitira na protest because na dismiss na po lahat for insufficiency in form and substance,” he added.
(All but three election protests have been thrown out for insufficiency in form and substance.)
Garcia also noted that no election protests were lodged against elected senators, the president, and the vice president.
“So maybe that’s an indication really that, not only did the people accept the result, but likewise their candidates, very important,” he also said.
A candidate can contest the election of any regional, provincial, or city official of the same office the candidate has run for.
One of the high-profile electoral protests occurred in 2016, when now-President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. contested the vice presidential result, declaring Leni Robredo as the winner.
