MANILA, Philippines—A man was killed after he allegedly resisted police arrest in Ozamiz City before dawn Tuesday, police said.
National police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said local police officers were about to serve an arrest warrant for Virgilio Sabad, a.k.a Virling Scarface, at his residence in Capucao, Ozamiz City when Sabad resisted arrest and fired at the arresting officers around 4:30 a.m.
This prompted the police to return fire, hitting Sabad in different parts of his body, Cruz Jr. said.
The suspect was immediately taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival, he said.
He said one grenade, one caliber .45 pistol with one magazine and three live ammunition were recovered from the crime scene.
