MANILA, Philippines—Chief Justice Renato Corona said on Tuesday that he did not change any story when he said that one of his daughters bought a property in the United States.
Corona was reacting to published reports that he earlier dismissed reports that his family owned two properties in the United States and then changed it a day later and admitted that one of his daughters bought a “dirt cheap’’ house in the US.
“The question to me was whether I or my wife owned any property in the US. We do not,” Corona said in a text message sent to reporters.
Journalist Raissa Robles, in her blog entry, wrote that she had information that Corona’s youngest daughter, Maria Charina, bought the US property 22 days before she acquired a P6.2-million property (203-square meter lot) in upscale McKinley Hill, Taguig City.
“What my daughter owns is hers, not mine or my wife’s. So, what story did I supposedly change?” Corona asked.
The Chief Justice earlier said that his daughter put a 10-percent down payment to acquire the property in the US “with 30 years to pay.’’
He said his daughter is earning well as a PT (physical therapist) who juggles two jobs.
In her blog, Robles asked: “Can a physical therapist raising two children and drawing salary from a hospital afford a pricey condo on top of a three-bedroom house in Roseville, California, almost at the same time?”
