MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla on Friday sees the arrest of his son over alleged involvement in the importation of P1.3 million worth of high-grade marijuana as a “test” to see how this “sensitive matter” would be handled.

“Ito ang tingin ko po dito isang pagsubok lamang ito sa aking pamilya, sa aking sarili, at marahil in so many ways, pagsubok sa ating bansa, on how we handle a sensitive matter like this,” Remulla said in an SMNI interview.

(I think this is a test for my family, myself, and perhaps, in so many ways, in our country, on how we handle a sensitive matter like this.)

“I am the head of the justice department, I will let justice take its course,” the Justice chief also said.

Remulla also said he has not asked for any favors from anybody upon learning of the incident.

“Kahit simula pa lang noong nalaman ko, wala akong hininging pabor sa kahit kanino. Ang sabi ko nga ikuha lang sya ng abogado, para madepensahan niya ang kanyang sarili,” he continued.

(Even at the beginning, I did not ask any favors for anyone. I just told them to get him a lawyer, so he could defend himself.)

Juanito Jose Remulla III was arrested on Oct. 11 during a controlled delivery of P1,304,800 worth of kush or hybrid marijuana.
