MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will continue preparing for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections despite their postponement, Chairman George Erwin Garcia said in a statement on Wednesday.

Last Oct. 10, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed into law the bill suspending the elections originally scheduled for December 2022.

Voter registration would also continue while the Comelec would revisit its planned procurement contracts and conduct information campaigns, among other things.

“We hope that hopefuls for barangay and SK positions and the voting public would also take this time to prepare and reflect on their rights and duties which they will exercise through their ballots and eventual offices,” Garcia said.
