LUCENA CITY – The local government of Polillo island town in northern Quezon has declared that classes at all levels, in public and private schools, in the locality will resume Thursday, Oct. 13 as tropical depression “Maymay” will no longer pass in the area.
The Polillo local government unit (LGU) announced on its Facebook page early Wednesday night that based on the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather bulletin at 5 p.m., Wednesday, their town and the rest of northern Quezon are no longer included in areas under Tropical Wind Signal No. 1 due to Maymay.
The LGUs in four other island municipalities of Burdeos, Panukulan, Patnanungan, Jomalig, and the mainland towns of Infanta, Real and general Nakar are expected to follow Polillo’s announcement about the resumption of school classes on Thursday.
On Tuesday evening, the local government in eight towns in northern Quezon canceled the school classes on Oct. 12 due to Maymay.
The Department of Education Order No. 37 series of 2022 stated that classes and work in schools from kindergarten to Grade 12 and Alternative Learning System are canceled automatically when there is a typhoon signal, an orange or red rainfall warning, or a flood warning in any locality.
The state weather bureau, on its 5 p.m. bulletin, said Maymay was last located 180 km east of Casiguran, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Signal No. 1 remains hoisted in the eastern portion of Isabela (San Mariano, Dinapigue, San Guillermo, San Pablo, Ilagan City, Benito Soliven, San Agustin, Palanan, Divilacan, Jones, Maconacon, Tumauini, Echague, Cabagan), the eastern portion of Quirino (Maddela, Nagtipunan, Aglipay, Saguday), and the northern portion of Aurora (Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dilasag, Dipaculao).
