LUCENA CITY — Classes at all levels in northern Quezon province were suspended on Wednesday due to Tropical Depression Maymay.
The local governments of Infanta, General Nakar, Real, and the island towns of Panukulan, Burdeos, Patnanungan, and Jomalig separately announced on social media the suspension of classes from preschool to Grade 12 in public and private schools in their respective localities.
Panukulan also suspended work in the municipal government.
The local government of Polillo announced the class suspension on Tuesday night, Oct. 11.
In September, northern Quezon suffered widespread devastation due to Supertyphoon Karding (international name: Noru).
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, in its Wednesday 5 a.m. bulletin, said Maymay was last located 305 km east of Baler, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Tropical Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted in Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and the extreme northern portion of Quezon, including the Polillo group of islands.
Department of Education Order No. 37 series of 2022 said classes and work in schools from kindergarten to Grade 12 and Alternative Learning System are canceled automatically when there is a typhoon signal, an orange or red rainfall warning, or a flood warning in any locality.
