AS HE HAS DONE so all through the years, Mark Caguioa provided the spark that was needed by the Ginebra Gin Kings in their push for the playoffs as he scored 25 points in leading his team to a 91-81 win over Barako Bull.
This was enough to earn the spitfire guard the PBA Player of the Week award for the period of March 19 to 25.
Caguioa scored the bulk of his points in the crucial second half that helped the Kings keep their bid for an outright slot to the semifinal round alive.
He also added seven rebounds and two steals to complete what was an all-around effort by the 2001 Rookie of the Year.
The Kings needed every bit of production by Caguioa in their game against the Energy Boosters as they were ahead by just three at halftime. Caguioa then scattered 11 of his points in a blistering stretch that then extended their lead to 68-49 and eventually, 70-55, heading to the final stanza.
Caguioa went on to score eight more points in the fourth period to help keep Barako at bay and point Ginebra home to its second straight victory and a 5-3 (win-loss) record./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
