LEGAZPI CITY — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in the Bicol region has issued a warning on Friday, Oct. 7, against the gathering, selling and eating of shellfish along the coastal areas of Milagros, Masbate where red tide toxin was detected.
BFAR – Bicol said the shellfish samples collected were positive for paralytic shellfish toxin.
The agency said the fish harvested from the said areas are safe for human consumption “provided that they are fresh and washed thoroughly.”
Meanwhile, BFAR – Bicol said that in the confirmatory testing, laboratory examination of samples from Sorsogon Bay was negative for red tide toxin.
Nonie Enolva, spokesperson of BFAR – Bicol, said the agency revoked its previous local red tide advisory for Sorsogon issued on Thursday, Oct. 6.
She said gathering and eating shellfish from Sorsogon Bay would be allowed.
