MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Energy (DOE) will consult with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) next week about the development of “green routes” for electric vehicles.
During Friday’s Senate finance subcommittee hearing on the 2023 budget of the DOE, Energy Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella said that they are eyeing the bus lane for electric vehicles.
“We have a public consultation with the MMDA, I think next week, with regard to the green routes development because under the law the electric vehicles can be given a non-fiscal incentive which is the exclusive lane green route na pwede nilang gamitin (which they can use).
“For example, what we envision is that — the bicycle lanes are being utilized by electric vehicles already right now for two wheels — but we’re looking at the use of the bus lane for electric vehicles, pure electric vehicles,” Fuentebella said.
According to the official, local government units will be responsible for the placement of “green routes.”
The agency is likewise coordinating with the Department of the Interior and Local Government on the matter.
